Today was a momentous occasion…my niece got her first makeup lesson! She is entering junior high next week and at that “tween” stage between no makeup and gobs. We visited the M.A.C. counter at Nordstrom and found 5 products for a back to school look that is pretty, natural and easy to apply.
- Face: Dust Mineralize Skinfinish Natural makeup all over for sheer coverage with a soft sheen; my niece is wearing the dark color, which also makes a great bronzer for lighter skin shades
- Blush: Brush Mineralize Blush in Love Thing (a deep pink-rose) to the apples of cheeks. The color is buildable, from a natural flush to vibrant.
- Eyes: Apply a layer of Honesty eyeshadow over lids (an iridescent peachy-rose color) and one coat of mascara (we opted not to purchase the shadow to keep it simple for this makeup newbie, but does nicely complete the look)
- Lips: Give lips a shimmer with Plushglass in Big Baby. At first glance this color seemed too neutral, but when applied it took on a very pretty peachy-gold glow.
I think the overall look is so beautiful and age-appropriate. These colors would also make a great neutral palette on all ages.
Beauty’s Best on QVC and Special Value Preview
This weekend I’ll be glued to the TV for 26 hours of “Beauty’s Best” on QVC (thank goodness it’s supposed to rain here in Seattle). It is QVC’s biggest beauty event ever! Starting at 7PM PST on Friday, the day will be filled with best-selling and top voted products and values in makeup, hair care and skin solutions. There are dedicated shows to Mally, Smashbox, Supersmile, Bare Escentuals, Neutrogena Dermatologics and Philosophy, plus hours featuring combined brands, such as the Beauty Clinic.
The Today’s Special Value for Saturday will be the customer favorite Clarisonic, a facial cleansing machine that uses sonic technology. I used the Clarisonic for several months and didn’t see much of a difference. However, many women can’t live without this system and it is a staple at leading spas, so it might be worth a try.
No surprise, I’m especially excited about the six hours of Mally Beauty! The preview promises lots of new stuff. Mally also has a gift with purchase (a City Chick eyeliner in espresso) until Sunday on select items.
