September Beauty Magazines are Out and There’s Lots to Love

This week I went everyday to the newsstand searching for the coveted September beauty magazines. As of today my collection is complete. I’ve studied the pubs cover-to-cover (even the ads) and am so excited with the Fall looks!
Interestingly, not one cover girl is an actual model and two are over age 40: Hilary Swank, Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry, Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Hudson and Jessica Biel.
Eye Makeup: The smoky eye is hot, though with a colorful twist: purples, plums and burgundy highlighted with pink; even the browns are popped with pink shadow or purple liner; Allure shows the “cat eye” variation
Lipstick/Gloss: Light pink and peach lips with the smoky eye; brighter pink paired with a neutral eye
Drugstore Makeup is Fashionable: A four-page Walgreens spread in Vogue advertises its beauty products in a tear-out calendar; ads for Maybelline and Cover Girl also appear in the high-fashion pubs BTW, after browsing Harper’s Bazaar I immediately went next door to Ulta and purchased the Cover Girl Liquiline Blast eyeliner in Violet. It’s a beautiful shade that is more plum than purple and lasts, post to come.

Nail Polish: From khaki to chocolate, brown nail polish is all the rage!

Fragrance: Justin Timberlake has a new womens perfume “Play for Her” that launches in October. It is reminiscent of his woodsy mens fragrance and the ad warns “wear responsibly.” Note: I am not a huge perfume wearer, but do love JT so couldn’t resist including🙂

Jewelry: Gold is still “in,” bangles remain stacked and pendant necklaces are in fashion

Beauty Over 40: Allure gives the scoop on aging gracefully and sexily from the “most gorgeous women over 40:” Cindy Crawford, Iman, Mariska Hargitay and more. One takeaway: Iman sees dermatologist Dr. Wexler, whose products I love, and recommends sunscreen everyday because the sun doesn’t discriminate.

Things that make me go “hmmm:” InStyle features beauty breakthroughs, such as the Borba Anti-Aging Linen Spray (an antioxidant-rich mist for bed sheets) and Chi Hand Shot Ceramic Hair Dryer (no handle and looks like a rocket, I guess many stylists hold dryers by the nozzle so why have a handle!?)
